Day 3711: Pathaan: Movie Review

Wifey and I found some time to watch the most hyped and most awaited Shah Rukh Khan Movie ‘Pathaan’ last night. Especially, because Nikki can’t stop humming ‘Besharam Rang’ song.

The first thing I noticed was the great effort (or effortlessness) in Shah Rukh Khan’s acting. The unnecessary fist clenching and forced stuttering was not visible. It was so much easy to eyes and ears.

Pathaan is a high octane action movie about a patriotic Indian Spy who fights and survives to save his beloved country from a rogue (erm )Indian spy. The movie has several fight scenes but succeeds in sustaining the entertainment with use of different twist to the plot.

It’s not a movie for the ones who prefer a mind blowing story lines but for the ones who wants entertainment and the value of ticket money. I didn’t get bored throughout the movie. There weren’t many useless scenes but few twist and turns that held my interest till the end. Story is simple yet not, totally, predictable. I could foresee few bits but it was a delight to see things unfold.

I found that all the main casts in this Mission-Impossible-esque movie did justice to their characters. King Khan is charismatic as a spy and carries the film nicely. Deepika Padukon succeeds to be more than an eye candy. John Abraham is fantastic as an antagonist and Dimple Kapadia deserves a special mention for her performance.

All in all ‘Pathaan' has all the ingredients of a masala entertainment movie that deserves to be watched on big screen in a cinema with slow-mo entries, iconic battles, foot tapping bollywood music, dancing on Spanish Beach, mission in Russia, explosions in Afghan village, car chase on the streets of Dubai, fighting while hanging from the choppers, banging in the train on the way to Siberia, chase with flying jets, bike chase over frozen lake of Russia etc etc etc won’t let you get bored. The occasional whistling and clapping from the audience in the cinema did add the festivity of return of King Khan.

Pathaan also felt like a celebration of Cinema which had somehow lost its charm due to Corona lockdown and the rise of OTT platforms. Pathaan is must watch in the cinema.

I give the movie 4 stars out of 5.

We had tried to book for Saturday’s 7.00PM show but few of the cinemas had all the tickets sold out on Thursday. The film show we were in was fully packed and the audience whistled and clapped at scenes and the dialogues that were worthy. The explosion of dance started at the end when ‘Jhoome Jo Pathan’ song started. It was a magical experience to have in the Cinema in London for a Bollywood movie.
