Day 2134: Social Nirvana

Not just the landscape but the company is equally important to make the environment. Today, people of different ages, eras, taste and walk of life came together to create an amazing environment; sharing opinions, creating stories and spending all the money of World Cup 2018 sweepstake. France won the World Cup and Prashant won the sweepstake.

We had visitors from Nepal, scientist, entrepreneur, philanthropist, philosopher, joker, banker, engineer, young, old, middle aged and most importantly very positive group of people who just wanted nirvana through booze, food, banters and laughter.

Another amazing night with the ‘Lads’ at Kingston.

Kingston; Before finding fame, singer-songwriter Eric Clapton used to spend time busking in Kingston. We hope one of us will follow his footsteps.

Thanks Arati for some of the clips.

Day 2132: Home NOT alone!

While I’m trying to have a quiet day at home, these invisible monsters are jumping on my head.

Day 2131: Ihī Vidhi – Initiation of young girls

Ihī Vidhi is one of the Daśakarma. The initiation takes place before the girls reach the age of puberty. This is also to prepare the girls of their natural physical changes during the adolescence.

Ihī Vidhi is a communal initiation where girls are married to Suvarna Kumar(Viśnu), the golden husband with Byāh(Śiva) wooden apple as the witness, also known as Bel. Hence, the phrase ‘Bel Bibah’ is misleading as Bel is just a witness in the process of Ihī.

In Ihī Vidhi the fulfillment of the wishes of the girls is expressed in the action of Phah Luyegu, the pouring of fruits from a brass pot over the girls.

Ihī Vidhi has been a tradition that is performed as a mark of a promise to remain virgin until marriage. Ihī Vidhi tradition came down from the time of Suvarna Varna’s mother who practiced this Ihī System, although some claim that it was propagated by Tathāgata.

Sthiti Malla, the Newar king, proclaimed that girls who die before initiation of Ihī Vidhi shall not be carried in a khātā (Ceremonial Palanquin); instead their bodies are carried on the arms of bearers to the śamśana (cremation ground). Also, boys who die before the initiation of cūḍākarma are not carried in khātā, but by bearers only.

There are few significant rituals and phrases of Ihī Vidhi. They are:

Mautisa: The uniform of the girls consisting of (gold) necklace, bangles, anklets with small bells and Kumārī dress of red skirt, blouse and shawl.

Pūjā jwalā: Plate with puja items, sukundā ihīpā (clay-plate on which bread fruits are kept) and sāgā dhaupati (small brass cup with curd in it)

Kisilī – The most conspicuous item among the Pūjā jwalā is kisilī. A clay cup(salim) full of rice on top of which an areca nut and coin are placed. The significant meaning of kisilī is that the cup represents earth, the rice grain indicates crops, the areca nut indicates space and the coin stand for population. So, kisilī represents the human world.

At the end of the Ihī Vidhi, all of the girls are treated with a grand feast after which, as in every ritual feast, the left-over food will be gathered and sent to a nearby Chwasah.

Pasa Pucha Guthi, UK - Pasa Pucha Guthi UK, Aldershot- organised its annual Ihī Vidhi in London at Ram Mandir, Southall on 22 July 2018. Bhoopati Rajopadhyaya travelled all the way from America to perform this Vidhi in the UK.

I shall share the short video that I have been able to capture of Ihī Vidhi organized by Pasa Puchah Guthi, UK. I have missed lots of important part of this Vidhi but I blame it on Oneek, who stole my camera-phone to play Minecraft. I will, definitely, complete this video next year when Pasa Pucha Guthi organizes this event again (If I can manage to keep Oneek away from my phone).

Day 2124 - Politically Incorrect.

You cant be politically correct all the time to make your point.

This made my day.

Day 2120: It’s NOT coming home.

Disappointed but not surprised. It was not to be at the end. England gave everything but they lacked the quality to match Croatia. Croatia were definitely the better team.

Looks like England needs a Nepali at the heart of defence even in the Football pitch.

My days to take Oneek to football trainings in the cold winter morning continues.

Day 2107- Little Venice

There is Venice in Italy.

And then there is a little Venice in London.

It is believed that the poet Robert Browning who lived nearby in 1862–87 named this beautiful place as ‘Little Venice’. Though, this has been disputed by many.

A memorable day spent by the canal, browsing dreams, creating memories and reliving stories with a lover.

And London, you have my heart. Always.

Day 2106: Football and faculty

Sightseeing after the epic game of England beating Sweden to reach Semi-finals in World Cup in 28 years, with Nepalese TechnoNuts.

Watching the match in Cambridge is also significant because, the first official game of football with rules similar to the rules we use now was played on Parker’s Piece, a public park in the middle of the city. These rules, appropriately dubbed the “Cambridge Rules”, were first used here in 1848 and were the basis for the Football Association’s rules in 1863.

Shout out to Tri Dai and Merina Bhauju!
